Stop sabotaging your life with limiting thoughts of who you are and what you can achieve! Don’t you know that thoughts have a very strong impact on the outcome of events? It’s true, and that’s why Allaah said in a hadith Qudsee,
“I am as my servant thinks of me”.
So your opinion of Allaah and what He will do for you is directly proportional to the outcome. You think good of Allaah, He will give you good. Think negatively, and well, don’t expect much.
Having positive and optimistic thoughts about yourself is the first step to improving your life. You’ll be happier and more productive. It’s funny. We are our friends’ and children’s biggest cheerleaders; constantly showering them with motivational praises. Yet, for us we are our worst enemy; rarely acknowledging the strong abilities Allaah blesses us with.
You have goals and personal dreams you want to achieve. There must be some habits you’d like to change or acquire. Or maybe you’re faced with a serious decision you know you have to make. Whatever it is, don’t let self-sabotaging thoughts keep you from moving forward with your life. Empower yourself by changing the narrative.
Here’s a list of phrases I want you to start saying and believing, because they’re true!
1. There is a point!
Saying, “There’s no point” is like saying, “I’ve already failed before I’ve even begun”. But there is a point to what you’re doing. You’ll be happier, you’ll learn something along the way, and someone will benefit.
2. I have something to contribute
You have unique qualities, skills, and experiences that can impact someone’s life. Yes, there may be others doing what you want to do, but there’s something in this arena you can do better or differently. People are in need of what you have to offer.
3. I may not have all the resources but I’ll make it work
You don’t have to be well-resourced or an expert to make a move. These things come with time. You just have to put in the work, make sincere du’a to Allaah and things will fall in place. Work with what you have and be flexible. You will learn tons of invaluable lessons and experiences along the way and soon enough you’ll find people to do those things you’re not so good at. Delegation of weaknesses is the strength of the successful!
4. I’m really good at this thing in particular
Recognizing what you’re good at is not arrogance! And putting yourself down all the time isn’t humbleness! Be real sister! Don’t crush your confidence. You’re amazing at many things. Point it out, develop it, and use it to your advantage!
5. Success comes from Allaah, I’ll seek it there
I’m sure you have tons of support from family, friends, and even strangers and they should defintely be turned to for moral support and just to hear that reassuring voice from time to time. But success will still come with or without them! Allaah is more interested in your success than anyone in this world is, including yourself! So turn to Him and do your part!
willing going to change
There are certain habits holding you back that you have to be willing to change. Excessive sleeping and eating, laziness, too much t.v., too much phone time, social media, certain characteristics etc. can all be toxic and a major obstacle in your path. You have to not only be willing but desparately determined to change, starting today. “Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves”. [ar-Rad 13:11]
7. With a little organization I’ll find time
“I have no time”, is a mom’s favourite excuse! When you tell yourself you have no time, you’re basically convincing your mind that this isn’t important which then categorizes as low on priority and so you never end up doing anything about it. Moms don’t have much time, and thats why you have to make time. Get out a planner and start assessing your days and activities against a clock. I guarantee you can fit it in!
8. All good things come with a little struggle or sacrifice
The things that are easy don’t really feel like big achievements as they don’t require much effort. You’re going to have to get up and put in the work. Believe me you’ll enjoy the process. No one ever achieved anything by day dreaming.
9. I’m capable of making decisions
Of course you are. You’re an adult. Pray istikhara before every decision and then decide. Whatever the outcome may be is in accordance to Allaah’s plan.
10. Even if it doesn’t work I still win
You still win because you took action. You win because you learned valuable lessons you wouldn’t have otherwise. You still win because you know what to do or not do next time. Valuable lessons and experiences are learned in failing, and that’s why its actually a win. Ask any entrepreneur and they’ll tell you their failures were the reasons for their successes.
11. The only one in charge of improving my life is Me
We like to look to others to improve our condition and happiness and then get disappointment when we don’t get the support from them we need. Your life will improve when you realize that you are the one who has to change and make a move. Don’t wait for others to change so you can be happy, or so you can make that move. It’s on you, and the time is now, so do something about it.
12. I’ll thank me later
You will definitely be proud of yourself when you look back to today. You’ll be proud and happy that you made a move. You’ll have an experience to share with your children and they will be proud too.
